Today I’m a little late in sharing this post as I’ve been grading research papers. I’m not sure which task is harder – actually being the student and writing the paper or being the Professor and grading it…..Nonetheless, I’m excited to be joining my friend Shannon again in her weekly link-up and series Write Yourself Happy. She has established prompts for the months of April and May and I hope you will join in with these prompts either in your personal journal, your blog or in comments. For the next two months, we will be using the journal writing technique of list making. List making is a wonderful tool for so many things and can help center thoughts, make life feel less chaotic and controllable. Today’s prompt is to list 5 individuals who you admire…. take a minute and think about those in your life and what are the qualities that you admire in them. Today I’m glad I have the opportunity to share my five. 1 & 2 My Mom and Nanny
These ladies raised me. My Mom was widowed at 32 and raised two kids by herself, was diagnosed and survived breast cancer, at one point lost her job and kept going. She never gave herself enough credit for what she went through and how successful she was. The reality is I grew up knowing that (although a man would be nice), I didn’t need one to survive. Mom rarely asked for help (and that was a downfall at times) but this taught me strength. Because of her I know that there is nothing I can’t do…Nanny was sassy (whether she wanted to admit it or not). Nanny taught me how to be proper but at the same time showed me that you could be outspoken. Even while my Granddaddy was alive, she was able to handle most things. She modeled for everyone in the family what it meant to be strong and self sufficient, and funny and as I said – Sassy. 3. My Husband
There are so many qualities and adjectives I could use here. This man is one of the most loyal, loving and caring individuals I have ever met. He is far more patient than I could ever hope to be and probably kinder than I could ever be. He is dedicated to what he feels is important: his work, our marriage, his friends and makes me a better person. I should also admit that he is very funny… with some warped sense of humor thrown in. 4. My Friend Janice
She just might kill me for putting her picture here but I don’t care. Janice was my co-worker and is now simply my amazing friend. This woman has been through everything and continues to be able to smile and stay strong in her faith. Her first husband was diagnosed with Hunnington’s Disease and Janice had to care for him and their two children. After his death and at age 40, she returned to college to become a clinical social worker. During this time she also had to care for her daughter who was also diagnosed with Hunington’s and help care for her daughter’s children. As if that isn’t enough, her daughter died and a few years later her second husband died from a heart attack. Janice is retired now but she’s planning a girls camp for her church and is preparing to go on a mission within the next few months. You can check out more about why I think she is amazing in her fantastic blog, appropriately titled My Leap of Faith.5. Tina Fey
I could list a long list of other people that I admire but I wanted to throw in someone well know. Truth is, if my life were made into a movie, I would want Tina to play me. She’s smart, funny and has made it in a man’s world – even when others thought she wasn’t that funny or good. Although I’ve never aspired to do comedy, I love that she’s an author, screenwriter, movie star and just darn cute. I’m hoping she would be as great of a BFF as I imagine her to be. So who is on your list….. take some time to think about it and don’t forget to let those you love know what you admire about them.

Thanks for linking up Sheryl! You have some pretty fantastic female role-models in your life! I love Tina Fey. Her book is hilarious and 30 Rock was always one of my faves. I love when a woman can make it in a man’s world!
