Today’s post was inspired by my friend Coach Colene. Yesterday she posted a Facebook question to her followers asking what was holding them back. This gave me incentive to review my intentions of the year and to remind myself of what I was hoping to accomplish this year. My intentions included saying yes to opportunities, improving my health and fitness, making time for friends and being creative. Establishing a word of the year has been extremely beneficial to me as I have made myself say yes to opportunities I might have otherwise said no to. Scheduling time with my friends in advance continues to be the best way to keep in touch and as I am blogging on a regular basis, I feel that I am being creative simply in a different manner than I have done in the past. From a health and fitness perspective, I continue to struggle with what I want to become. The truth is, I have not sat down and created goals for myself in regards to my health and fitness. This intention has simply been spoken but not examined. How am I supposed to go somewhere if I don’t know where I want to go? My answer to Colene would be that lack of planning is holding me back. I’ve set an intention but I’ve done nothing with it. As I look toward the remainder of the year, I know I need to be more specific. I need to set an amount of weight to lose, a number of times I would like to work out. Without these goals I have nothing to say I’ve accomplished. What is holding you back? Take some time this week to think about what you want to accomplish. Do you find yourself saying you would like to do something but doing nothing in regards to what that would look like? How do you plan to lose the weight, get a new job, break a negative habit? Without planning we are unable to set a path for ourselves. Without setting a path we simply wander without direction. Acknowledge what is holding you back and don’t be afraid to make changes! Linking up with Weekly Wishes where you can find others setting goals and getting things done!

I have loved discovering your blog through the link up! I have found that I’m my own worst enemy, and only I can truly hold myself back in terms of becoming who I want to. This is my mantra, and maybe it will help you too! “She believed she could so she did.” Have a wonderful week!
Amen! I giggle and think I almost need to be like Jim Carrey’s character in the movie, Yes Man! Maybe not THAT extreme, but just learning to say yes to new things could lead to great adventures and memories! I’m all about making new memories!
OOh, that is really something to think about! I’m definitely going to think about that this week.
I’ve surprised myself in regards to what I’ve done because “yes” has been my word of the year. I think we sometimes say “no” to things because… it’s too hot or too cold, or we’re too tired. Some of the things haven’t been that great and I’ve said “no” as I went further into the situation but I’ve expanded my opportunities. No regrets!
I know what you mean! I’ve been in that rut for years. This year I chose the word “Follow,” because I wanted to be more intentional about asking Jesus to lead me and to follow as He leads, even when it’s the hard stuff. Making a list of 6 big priorities and hanging it in a frame has been helpful for me. I also downloaded a guide called Say Goodbye to Survival Mode from Money Saving Mom, and it’s helping me a ton. It provides a lot of resources for being intentional and setting small steps. Good luck to you! I need all the help I can get with this stuff, so praying for motivation and strength and holding myself accountable really helps.
I have been mulling over this topic for a while. Taking time to discover and actually put into action what you love as a lifestyle definitely brings new life to you. We keep ourselves in boxes because we care so much about the opinions of others that we stifle our own creativity and happiness.

When I read the title of this post the first word that came to mind was complacency. Which really comes down to a lack of planning or action steps. Looking forward to following your journey. I am on a reinvention path myself.
I feel the same way with my fitness goals for this year. I keep saying my goals are this and that, but lack the planning to actually achieve them. This will change!
I’m going to sit down and write out some concrete goals. With my classes starting at the end of August and beginning to pick up more private clients – I have to get things organized and REAL. I’m thinking I’m going to write out a serious life list……. it may be the only thing that keeps me from just sitting and doing nothing.
This morning I saw a spot on GMA about an app that pays you if you work out. (of course it dings you if you don’t). I’m not sure it would work when you have kids but it could help some people with motivation.
Let me know how things start going for you! We can support each other.
Ah great post. I can relate to how you feel about your fitness goals. Sometimes I feel like we just go through the motions and do things for the sake of doing them but don’t really think about why we’re doing them. In result, we don’t really make any progress and a lack of clear goals holds us back. Definitely something to reflect upon. Thank you for the inspiration!
