Tour Through Blogland

Tour Through Blogland

Hello Everyone!

Last week my friend Christine tagged me to continue the Tour Through Blogland. There has been ALOT of changes going on here. It’s exciting  for me that my first post with my new design and new platform is to provide a tour.  If you are new to this blog – Welcome! I am so glad that you are here. Please feel free to check out my About Me page. If you are a regular reader, I’m always glad you are here and hope you will enjoy the new design.

What are you working on now?

For the past month, I have been working with my designer Amanda on creating this new design and transferring from Blogger to WordPress. I feel the look is clean and crisp which makes my posts easier to read. You will also find that my posts are now labeled and can be found in categories. This blog continues to be written from a personal perspective but I also want to include professional tips in regards to personal growth, self development and journal writing. There will continue to be regular posts written about grief and living a healthy life.

From a regular series perspective, I have created the Journal Notes series which will be posted each Wednesday and will also continue with my How To series. Additionally, I will continue to post gluten free recipes and inspirational posts from a creative and emotional perspective.

I am also now accepting sponsors. There will be one featured spot each month. This will enable me to form a relationships with my sponsor and provide a personalized and boutique type sponsor experience. I am now offering a limited time 50% discount with the code C’est la vie. Additionally, I continue to accept ad swaps.

Most importantly, I’m working on learning WordPress. There is a learning curve and I have to admit I don’t like not being automatically proficient. You will find there will be a few things I need to adjust and I ask for your understanding. However, I can already tell I am going to enjoy WordPress.

How does your work differ from others in the genre?

My blog is a mixture of many different things. At it’s core, How To Make A Life is a lifestyle blog with many different slashes. Here you will find the perspective of life from a counselor who specializes in transition counseling. This space is where I share my own journey of reevaluating my life after my own transitions and the story of what works and what doesn’t.

So in addition to lifestyle, I would include self development/inspiration/healthy living (and many others).

Why do you write/create what you do?

I have been a journal writer most of my life. As a grief counselor, I felt it would benefit others (and myself) if I established a public outlet for my grief journey. I have always wanted this to be a place where I shared the struggles and triumphs of working through the loss of family members. As time has progressed, I have made this space an off shoot of my counseling work where I write about my passions of journal writing, travel and making a life.

I also recently realized that the creation of this blog is fulfilling the dreams of a little girl who once wanted to write a book. This is giving me a foundation to be a published author.

How does your writing/creative process work?

I find that I am continuously viewing the world differently as I write this blog. I feel I am more mindful of moments and trying to find meaning in my experiences. Many popular posts have been written as I was sitting in a waiting room or because of an event which unexpectedly happened. As my professional life is becoming busier, I realize I will need to be protective of the time I spend on my writing. I do not want to lose the ability to sit down and write a piece that is therapeutic and meaningful but I also hope to always have a post or two written early.

I now want to remind you to follow up next week with some of my favorite bloggers as they continue with their own tour!

It’s so true! I think I briefly read the explanation behind why you chose the name but have you heard the quote “we make a living by what we get and a life by what we give”? Anyway it’s one of my favorite quotes and that’s what your blog name reminded me of 🙂
