February Check In

February Check In

Last month I shared that Thrive is my 2015 word of the year. I plan to utilize the first Monday of each month to review my monthly progress  with a check in and prepare for the month ahead.

Sadly, there was not a lot of thriving in January. I spent three weeks of the month continuously fighting a cold that refused to go away. This lead me to being exhausted for most of the month and simply doing what only needed to be done. There went my plans for beginning a consistent exercise routine, planning our meals and getting ready for classes to start.

Being sick at the beginning of the year helped me to review many things in my life.

  • After I began to feel stronger last Fall, I found that I began to skip taking some of my daily supplements. I had not had as much trouble knocking off a cold as I did last month and I have learned an invaluable lesson. The supplements and vitamins that my doctor has me taking have helped to build my immune system. Eliminating them from my daily routine began to affect my immune system. Lesson Learned!
  • Although I love to start the year off being organized, I was able to accept that as long as the main areas of my home are clean and organized, the others can wait. Learning to let go of some OCD tendencies can be a relief.
There were some areas of January that can count as thriving.
  • I am consistently scheduling clients and a large percentage of them are returning for follow-up visits. I am receiving referrals from not only my personal physician but also other social workers in the community. Building a practice takes time and I am establishing a foundations.
  • Although I did not openly state it as a goal, I have been making sure that I drink more water. I typically struggle during cold weather with drinking water but being sick helped me to be motivated to stay hydrated. I feel and look best when I drink at least 100 ounces per day and there have been only a few days I did not meet my goal. Staying hydrated improves every aspect of life.
  • Despite not feeling well, I was able to do two community trainings. I look at each training as an opportunity to not only improve upon my training skills but to also make more connections.
As for February, I am hopeful.
  • I truly do want to return to a workout routine. The struggle is going to be in making time for it during my schedule. Although I truly don’t want to get up at 5:30am, it looks like that may have to be the time.
  • I am a woman managing multiple jobs. There are days when I am doing three jobs in the course of one day. It continues to be an adjustment. I’m hoping to find more of a routine that feels comfortable as I go between the multiple jobs.
  • During the month of February, I am hoping to become more organized with blog posts and this space.I recently began using CoSchedule and I can already see the change in my life!  There will be a post on this to come.
  • James bought me the camera of my dreams for Christmas but I haven’t felt like using it. I truly love photography and I want to master my DSLR. I hope to have more knowledge by the end of the month.
In summary, I realize that thriving is a process. There are moments that in order to Thrive, things must be broken down. Realizing my immune system wasn’t as healthy as it should be has helped me to make changes in my life. Life is a continuous journey. Today I’m linking up with Weekly Wishes and A Grateful Heart Monday. Although my month may not have been what I wanted, I am always grateful for the days I’ve received and the days to come!.

How are you doing with your 2015 intentions or word of the year?

Despite battling that cold, it sounds like you did a lot thriving (great word choice, btw!) still. Like you, I’ve also been watching my water intake and aiming for 80oz a day. You’re right, it makes a big difference in how you feel!

It’s amazing how water does make you feel better. And you are right, after I wrote things down I realized how much I had accomplished. So glad you stopped by.

Ahhh that’s so exciting you’re starting to get more referrals to your practice! And it sounds like you were able to learn and reflect on January even though you spent most of it sick (no fun at all!) so far generosity has looked like inviting two couples over for dinner/games, it’s been fun!

Yeah!! We just have to remember that it will be small steps towards our goals.

I’ve always felt like the New Year word and/or “resolutions” are really put into action beginning February – January always seems so crazy coming down from the holidays and kind of regrouping. So I think it’s SO great you’re feeling hopeful this month!! 🙂

What all do you take? I take Vit D, C, echinacea, fish oil, oil of oregano and caprylic acid daily, elderberry and zinc if I feel a cold coming on. *Knock on wood* but I have successfully, headed off the colds my kids have had in December and January. I actually have them on elberberry gummies now, which seems to be helping them too.

When I take things like I should I take a multiple vitamin,Vitamin D, Adrenal Complex, 5HTP, turmeric, fish oil and a hormone balance supplement. I had not taken elderberry syrup until a few weeks ago – now I’m not going to not have it in the house.
