Keeping a Travel Journal

Keeping a travel journal

I am going to admit that for all the love I have for journal writing, I have never kept a travel journal. As I look back at the places I have explored I do wish this had been a habit I established.   Like all journal writing, a travel journal can consist of what you want and need it to be. It could be a lined paper journal where you write about the sites you have seen or reflect on the day as you sit by the ocean and watch the sunset. It could also be a binder or folder of your daily agenda with ticket stubs and restaurant menus. Of course, we can also consider Instagram a photo journal of our travels. I do always take my personal journal with me when I travel (always stored in my carry on luggage) and I typically do write one or two posts. Travel journals provide a record of where we have been and help us to share our explorations with others. After all, if it weren’t for explorers establishing their own travel journals, we would have no history of our our country.

If you are planning a summer vacation this year, I encourage you to keep your own travel journal.

Are you following @journaling_sage on Instagram? I think you’d really like her account.

This is a great idea! We’re going to Hilton Head next month and I’d love to write about it- I want to remember all the funny things my niece says and does!

It’s a great way to begin a journal – even if it’s only one sentence or a small memory. (Love Hilton Head and haven’t been for awhile)

Thanks for sharing this! I did this on one of my Europe trips! Now my travel journal just consists of writing where we have gone and when we went! I wish I was more detailed, but I think that is why I’m trying to blog about some of our trips!

I think our blogs do become great travel journals where we can have our photographs and memories (and others get to share it with us). I am loving all of the trips you are sharing.

I kept a travel journal when I studied in England in college. I was against it at first but I am so glad I did! I love looking back through it and getting a firsthand account of what I did and where because I don’t always remember all the little day to day details.

I’m so glad you did. As I said, I haven’t kept travel journals in the past and I regret it because there are so many small details that we forget but our words bring us right back there.
