Journal Notes | I'm Not A Winter Person

wodw-snowfall

Today, as part of Mia’s and Vashelle’s Write or Die Wednesday,  I am utilizing the journal technique of using a word and writing whatever my thoughts may be.This will be a timed write, another technique which allows the writer to express their thoughts without critiquing. Today’s word prompt is in the photo above.

I’m a summer girl. I don’t like snow. Of course, I live in a state that struggles with the smallest amount. Our cities become paralyzed and life becomes crazy. I suppose there was a time when I did like it, when I was little and there were snow days (there was always a lot of snow days).

I shivered tonight as I watched the national news and heard the new amount of snowfall for Boston. I simply couldn’t do it. Misery on all levels.

Yet, I am also learning to appreciate the beauty of fresh fallen snow. I love the beauty of the landscape when there are no footprints. I also love not having to leave my house.  Snow days as an adult are truly wonderful but they are far and few between. Work rarely offers snow days – unless it’s a major storm.

As I write this, I acknowledge that I’m needing a snow day. We’ve been blessed with a very light winter and even the schools have had few of the typical snow days. It’s so important to take time off. The positive of having those snowed in days is that you are given permission to stop the normalcy of the day. In some ways, I truly miss snow days!

Take a few minutes to write down your own thoughts on snowfall!

I love the way you took your dislike of winter and turned it into something beautiful anyway. Snow days, I remember them well from when I worked. And yes, the beauty of a fresh blanket of snow that has yet to be trampled by feet is something to behold.

Thank You Mitzi, one of the things I love about doing a timed free write with a word is that it can take you someplace you might not consciously be aware of. We had a Saturday a few weeks ago when I woke up and there was 5 inches of snow and no one had been out yet. It was as if time had stopped for a few moments. So glad you stopped by.

“I love the beauty of the landscape when there are no footprints.”

Oooh, that is a beautiful thought –the worn earth being blanketed by something so pure and white. What an image 🙂

I always loved the rare Texas winters when my kids had a snow day. We would snuggle in bed all day, and I’d make their favorite soup (“sopa”) and allow them to have decaf coffee. Fond memories!

I love that you think of snow days as an oportunity to rest and recharge. I could use a figurative snow day. Haha 🙂

I’m pretty certain you aren’t going to be getting any snow days in Hawaii any time soon. As much as I’m not a fan of winter, I also know if I lived in a warmer year round climate, I would miss it. It was certainly odd for me to see Christmas Trees on the beach in Florida!

There’s definitely something wonderful about experiencing snow days as an adult and not having to leave the house! 🙂 I personally love winter, but I can definitely appreciate the summertime!

I’m learning to love parts of winter. There was one winter where for weekends in a row there was always one day that we stayed in, made soup and had no where to go. Haven’t had one of those winters in awhile but it’s certainly a wonderful memory.

sounds lovely, the idea of a snow day, I don’t get snow days where I live, but I do love a cold, rainy day when there is no where to go and as a family we play board games and drink hot chocolate. I used to love laying in bed late listening to the rain, but then I had 3 kids, so lay ins aren’t quite as easy to come by.

Mackenzie, I LOVE those cold rainy days where you stay indoors all day. Those are like little gifts along the way in life. Thanks for stopping by!

I love snow and it makes me so sad that we basically get a few flurries each winter. I grew up where it was nothing to get 6 inches and now the city shuts down if we get an inch. I will never understand how I can be in the same state, but it is so so different. And yes, I SO need a snow day right about now!

I truly didn’t need how much I needed a snow day until I wrote this. And yes, isn’t it funny how things used to keep going when we were little.
