Five on Friday – Kentucky Edition

Happy Friday from the Bluegrass State – otherwise known as My Old Kentucky Home.

There are lots of things happening in and around our beautiful state this weekend and I wanted to share them on my Five on Friday link-up.
1. The Madness Continues

This beautiful shot occurred Sunday evening by Aaron Harrison to place our beloved Kentucky Wildcats into the NCAA Final Four this weekend. You will find our state glued to televisions on Saturday night (and of course Monday because we WILL win). We love our basketball in Kentucky and a win will be our 9th NCAA Championship.

2. It’s Racing Season

If there is something we love almost as much as basketball in Kentucky – it’s horses. Today marks opening day at Keeneland, the local track here in Lexington. I find it one of the most beautiful places in the world. We are less than a month away from the Kentucky Derby (and I know you have heard of that).
3. Maker’s Mark Commemorative Bottle

Every year, Maker’s Mark Bourbon Distillery (another Kentucky original) releases a commemorative bottle. Many of the past bottles have featured Kentucky sports stars and this year the second year Kentucky football coach Mark Stoops  is featured on his own bottle. All of the money made from these bottles goes toward charity each year.

4. Spring Has Arrived

I am finally having blooms from the flowers in my yard and we are experiencing somewhat warmer weather (as I write this we are having a spring thunderstorm). Dare I say we have seen the last of snow?

5. Spring Hair

It’s not the best picture – but this week I’ve gone lighter with my hair. Warmer weather = lighter hair. It’s amazing how color changes how you feel.

Thanks for stopping by and don’t forget to visit some others from the link-up.
Have a Great Weekend!!

Oh Thank You – as I said, not the best picture but the only one I have right now. I do love being more blond – the maintenance is just what kills me! 🙂 Luckily, I have a wonderful hair dresser!

My work is having an outing to Keeneland in a couple weeks but we won’t be able to make it unfortunately. A former co-worker from PA told me that he would rather visit there than Churchill Downs.

    Sorry Kentucky lost!

We are in mourning about the loss but surviving! 🙂 I have to agree with your co-worker about going to Keeneland over Churchill Downs. Of course, I grew up here and think it is beautiful. Churchill Downs is great but it doesn’t have the elegance of the surrounding horse farms.
