I almost didn’t write this post. But then I took a deep breath and realized I need to.
The next two weeks of my life are hectic with an ongoing to do list as I wrap up a semester of classes, finals to grade, and site visits to make. In between all of that we must get ready for our vacation out of the country which involves getting our summer clothes out, seeing what fits, buying what we need and packing. I’m not even mentioning the fact that I need to work out more, clean the house plan some meals and begin doing some yard work.
I’m not sure where I place creating a blog update. I also didn’t mention that I’m not feeling well (who has time for getting sick?)
In my head it can be overwhelming but it is then that I realize I need to take the time to slow down and do something simple.
Making a list and timeline can be one of the easiest ways to make you feel more in control of an out of control day/week or month.
Several days ago, I made myself sit down with a calendar where I placed due dates that I must make (grades are due, visits must be made, clients to be seen) from there I saw the dates which were free. It was those dates I can place going through clothes, doing necessary shopping and packing. When lists are in our head, they typically feel as if they are morphing with each second. Placing the list on paper makes it tangible and gives you control. Also, creating a list often helps one to realize that there isn’t as much to do as it feels like.
I will need to remind myself of all of this as I get through the upcoming days but I also know that this slows me down and is helpful.
Do you have techniques you have found helpful when life gets crazy? I would love to hear about them.
