Enjoying the Now
Do you sometimes find yourself spending too much time thinking about everything but what is in front of you? I’ve shared that my April has been and is extremely busy but this weekend was one full of many wonderful events which found me enjoying the now.
James and I started the weekend celebrating our anniversary with a fantastic dinner at Dudleys in Lexington. (Sorry, we didn’t take photographs of us). Although I’ve typically written anniversary posts, my week was so busy that I simply ran out of time last week. I am blessed to have James in my life and each day he is always the first gratitude on my list.
On Saturday, Lexington was blessed with a beautiful sunny day (after 5 days of rain). It was wonderful to spend time in our yard and having the sunroof open on the car. Kentucky continues to be in bloom and full of greenery.
On Sunday, we were honored to spend the day celebrating the 96th Birthday of James’s Grandmother. We attended church with her, where she was showered with love from her church family and celebrated with lunch and dessert. She is a beautiful woman (seriously, look at how young she looks) and it is hard to realize she is 96 years old.
I will be honest that there are many times when I am with James’ family that I immensely miss my own mother and grandmother. However, I am blessed to have them all in my life and it means alot that Grandmother introduces me as her Granddaughter. I can only hope to live into my 90’s and be as healthy (she continues to live on her own) and beautiful.
This weekend was simply good on so many layers. It is a reminder of the importance of gratitude and being grateful for the small things (part of my anniversary present was a gift of my favorite root beer that is made out of state), milestones (anniversary and birthday) and the beauty of the season. Sometimes, life is just good!
Life isn’t always smooth but I’ve been blessed with a few days that were simply enjoyable. Today I’m linking up with Emily’s Grateful Heart Monday and encourage you to visit others who are sharing their gratefulness.
Are you able to enjoy your now?

Happy anniversary! I’m so glad you guys were able to celebrate it and take time for yourselves. Grandmother does NOT look 96 holy moly! She looks great! That’s awesome that she introduces you as her granddaughter 🙂 I definitely have a hard time living in the now and it’s a conscious effort almost daily for me to enjoy the present.
Sarah,, please know that being present is something I truly have to work on. My mind always has a list going but I’m improving in regards to being present. I just had to share some pictures of Grandmother – because, first she’s 96 and that’s certainly important and second – she’s beautiful. Her skin is amazing!! Hope you have a great week.
Her skin is amazing! You should ask her her secret! My Grandma passed away about a year ago at the age of 95 and she always swore that “an apple a day keeps the doctor away” (she was ALWAYS eating apples!) I hope you have a good week as well!
Happy Anniversary, friend! I’m glad you guys had a nice weekend with beautiful weather finally! And you are right, his grandmother is gorgeous! And so are you! Happy Monday!
Thank you Lady! She’s always looked younger than her age and yesterday she stated she certainly didn’t feel 96 but wasn’t sure what age she would say! 😉 The weather didn’t allow for a great hair day yesterday for me but I really wanted a picture with her! Hope your week is great.
So glad you had a great anniversary!!
Thank you! I always wonder about writing anniversary posts but I feel it’s something to be celebrated.
This is really beautiful! I so admire that you can still spend quality time with your grandmother. And happy anniversary!!
Thanks Daisy. James and I are lucky she’s with us and lives close.
Happy Anniversary! Glad it was a good one!
Thanks Holly! It really was good.
Happy anniversary!
I have a hard time enjoying the now. I’m one of those people that can’t help looking back fondly on the past or else I’m planning for the future. Sometimes appreciating the now can be hard!
Thanks Krysten! I so understand where you are coming from. We all tend to have so much on our minds that it’s so difficult being present – as you said, it’s either thinking ahead or looking back. It’s something we all have to practice.
Happy anniversary! We will be celebrating my Grandma’s 80th birthday this weekend. But 96? Amazing. I hope that I’m on this Earth long enough to be able to enough life beyond 96.
It is amazing to think about being 96. I do hope we can each live long enough and be in good enough health to see what 96 and beyond looks like.
