As I know many people feel, I am not sure how it has come to be the end of October.
Although I seriously try to appreciate each day, it is a struggle at times. There are days, I’m simply grateful to get through and always other days to look forward to. I always find myself reflecting and doing self evaluation during season changes and I’ve certainly been doing that over the past few months. Today, I wanted to share a little in regards to what is going on currently in my life. I’ve been neglecting my own personal journal over the past few weeks and I felt this would be a great post to update readers and perhaps help myself with some reflection.Currently I have been:
Enjoying unseasonably warm Fall temperatures for Kentucky. We have had days in the high 80’s over the past few weeks and I’ve worn sleeveless shirts and open toe sandals. The summer girl in me is holding on to all of the warmth that she can. Kentucky weather can be cruel and it is not uncommon to have a 25-30 degree drop in temperatures over night. We may simply go into winter. Nonetheless, I’ve loved the leaves and beautiful blue skies. Thinking about my Mom. Next week would be her birthday. It is hard to believe that in February she will be gone four years. I miss her and wish she were here but thoughts of her mostly make me smile from the good memories. Training for the Girls On The Run 5K in December. Technically I am a running buddy and am not going to officially clock my time but I’m still attempting to get myself back into shape. I do have to watch my back and not injure it again. Here’s hoping it will not be a problem. This also means I’ve become friends with my FitBit again, leave me your address and let’s connect. Planning to begin working out at the new YMCA in our neighborhood here in Lexington. It has taken 10 years for the facility to be built. It is absolutely gorgeous and opens on Monday. I will need to review my schedule in regards to classes I would like to attend. I prefer early morning classes but the ones I am interested in are after work. Recovering from a super busy past 10 days. Last weekend, friends and I waited three hours to see 5,000 Jack o lanterns. We didn’t get home until 2:30 in the morning and recovery has been hard. James and I also had several events planned in honor of his birthday over the week, including a John Mellencamp concert, dinners out and a day at the pumpkin patch. All of this always makes me want just one more day for the weekend. Blessed to have things to do and people to be with – but tired. Rebuilding my body. This is also why I am probably not bouncing back like I have in the past. I’ve not spoke much about a few health issues that have occurred. Thankfully nothing significant but I’ve learned via bloodwork and ultrasounds there are things to do differently. I’ve been diagnosed with hypothyroidism for eight years and a recent scan showed a few nodules on my thyroid that my specialist feels simply need to be watched (thankfully). Blood work also showed that I was deficient in some major vitamins and hormones which likely account for fatigue, hair loss and dry skin. I am grateful to have found a new physician who “gets it” and did such comprehensive bloodwork. I am nowhere near the condition I was eight years ago but I’m being more proactive in regards to my diet, rest and all the other aspects of my life. Reconsidering career moves and what to do next. I feel it is important to do regular check ups in regards to your career. When one does not, I feel there is more of a likelihood of burnout. Ask yourself if you still like what you are doing? Are you feeling fulfilled? These are some things I am going to reflect upon. Eating all of the brussel sprouts that I can. Seriously, I have always loved this vegetable and I’m loving that there is a renaissance with all of the great recipes. Listening to the Atlanta Falcons/Green Bay Packers game. I’m a Falcons fan and think some people might be surprised that I just sat through a whole half without my husband in the room. I’m also listening to all types of music when I can (follow @howtomakealife on Instastories for regular car karaoke. Selling parts of my closet off on Poshmark. (Find me @sherylww) Seriously, I do own too much and have items that I’ve simply kept in my closet. I was hesitant to use Poshmark but have sold several items and made decent money. If you are not a member, use code GQNJT to receive $5 off your first purchase. Preparing to end this post and take my weekly detox bath. This is my regular self care activity that I do regards of how late it is on Sunday night!Give me an update and let me know what you are currently doing.

I’ve been eating Brussels Sprouts like crazy too. They are so good roasted! It has been really warm here too, around 90 everyday. Too hot to spend time in the afternoon outside. It usually is like that until November at least, but I am looking forward to slightly cooler temps soon 🙂 Have a great day!
I am beginning to feel sorry for everyone who loves Fall because our temps are so high. Tomorrow we will be in the 80’s. It’s also crazy in regards to what to wear! I also know what you mean about too hot in the afternoon – it’s crazy!!
I did NOT move to the east coast for these warm fall temps! Last year it was in the high 70s on Thanksgiving and I was like WTH?? Not cool! Literally, it was not cool. =/
I love our local YMCA. Enjoy the nice facilities and reasonable membership fees!!
Have a great week, Sheryl!
Thanks Shelly!! This weather is insane!! It will be 80 degrees here – I’m just going to enjoy it while I can.
I didn’t know your mom has been gone for four years, Sheryl <3 I'm so sorry for your loss but am glad that you are remembering your time together fondly.
I am also glad to hear that you are taking good care of your body and that you have found such a thorough physician. It's something we tend to neglect, self-care, but when real health issues are at stake, we realize just how important it is to stay vigilant and be proactive.
I haven't had brussel sprouts in ages. Thanks for the reminder–I need more greens always 🙂 XOXO
Charlotte, not sure if you realized but my Mom’s death was one of the reasons I started this blog. Grief does warp time and it is hard to believe it will be only 4 years as it sometimes feels forever. My favorite physician had to move out of state and it’s taken me awhile to find a good doctor. Finally, go get yourself some brussel sprouts.
<3 I didn't know, Sheryl… I'm so sorry 🙁 I can understand this about time being warped as a result of grief.
Sending a few extra XOXO's today. *HUGS*
I should check out Poshmark. I have some items in my closet that I haven’t worn and would love to pass them on to a better home!
I loved this check in! I hope you have a wonderful week. 🙂
Thanks Crystal – I hope you have a great weeke also. Take a look at your closet and Poshmark – even a little money is better than no money and the shipping is easy.
I’m enjoying the weather here in Lexington too! I love what I do – I work from work teaching ESL! I also have tons of clothes I want to get rid of. I was thinking about selling them on Poshmark too, but none of them as name brand :/
Have you checked out Poshmark to make sure you couldn’t sell some of your things? They have a variety of clothing/shoes etc…. and there are brands that aren’t as known. I’m loving that it will be 80 degrees today but do feel bad about my friends who are fall lovers.
I’m with you on the weather! I’m in Harrogate, TN (borders Kentucky). But, coming from California, I’m a little worried about the weather that’s to come!
I’m jealous of the warm weather you’re having! It’s already pretty chilly in Toronto and I don’t think we’ll be seeing warm temperatures until spring. Good luck running the 5K that’s a great accomplishment!
I am loving this weather too, and ALL your Fall pictures…they make me smile 🙂 Congratulations and great work on training for running and choosing some classes at the YMCA. I need to get back to exercising everyday…life has been insane to say the least, but I need some stress relief and that may be it!
