Try This At Home – Change Your Routine

Today I want to encourage you to change your routine in some way.
Consider how the routine of your daily life can make each day quickly fade into the next. One of the reasons we appreciate the change of seasons (or school) is there is a forced change in our daily routine. Although your work schedule may continue to be the same, consider various ways you can change your routine over the summer.
- Make plans to eat al fresco at a favorite restaurant each week.
- If you are able, eat out on your own patio or deck.
- Change your workout routine, schedule a class at a different time or try a new workout.
- Visit a local Farmer’s Market or attend a weekend festival.
- Take a different route to work or home (for me traffic is lighter and I can take routes I typically avoid).
- If you are able, go into work earlier so that you can leave early.
- Outside of a scheduled vacation, schedule a long weekend and spend the day doing activities you don’t have the time to do. I typically take these days to shop at stores I can’t squeeze in on my weekends.

A small change in routine can alter your day in a positive manner. Changing your daily routine forces you to become more aware and mindful as you are no longer falling into what can be a daily rut.
Does your routine change during the summer? Will you take the challenge and change your routine?
Try This At Home is a weekly series focusing upon tips and suggestions to help create a happier life.
Oh how I love this! I’ve felt envious, too – my life doesn’t change much Monday-Friday with the seasons. I have definitely made a habit of eating on our patio more. Love these ideas!
Thanks Lindsay. I’m envious of my friends time during the summer but I certainly wouldn’t trade places with them during the school year!! 🙂
I love these ideas on making some small changes in your life to celebrate summer! I think it helps us appreciate each season in our life when we take time to acknowledge them instead of just keeping our routines the same.
If we don’t take time to make small adjustments, we simply get bored and can overlook so many good things.
so great! Especially eating outside-being outside makes me so happy and can make an ordinary day so happy and cheerful!
I’m right there with you. i eat outside any chance that I can get. It’s an instant mood boost.
Great reminder. Having a career that you can take with you , there should be no excuses not to enjoy the summer for what it give us.
I so agree Sandy. It is up to each of us to take time to appreciate each day and what it brings.
YES! I think it’s just about realizing that what works for ME won’t necessarily work for YOU which is okay, and sometimes it just takes playing around a little bit to figure out what is our best.
It is so important to find out what works best for YOU!!
I love this. I crave change but have the habit of doing this routinely, day in and day out. Every now and then, however, when I break out of the usual, something interesting/different/worthwhile always seems to happen.
PS: Also jealous for anyone enjoying summer hours, BUT I’m trying to achieve more of a work/life balance so that I can enjoy more sunshine whenever possible 🙂
I’m hoping you can enjoy as much sunshine as possible this summer. When we follow the same routines I am not sure we appreciate our lives as much. XO
My husband is a teacher so I am the only one in my house that doesn’t welcome summer as much as he and my daughters do. DOn’t get me working…I love it but it’s tough being the only one out of 5 that still keeps the same routine and schedule year round. I needed this post more than you know! I plan on spreading vacation days out so that I can shorten my work weeks and get some quality time with all of them!
Oh Anne, i so feel for you. I know there must be days when it is so hard to get out of the house with all of them there. I’m glad you are going to have some short weeks and enjoy time with them this summer – it’s all about changing our routines and making adjustments.
AS a teacher I have Summer’s off and as much as I love routine, summers are my time to throw it all out to the wind and do whatever I wish for the day. With no children at home this is obviously easier. I do agree, when we switch up one simple thing in our life, it does something to our spirit and things always seem a little brighter. So glad you shared these tidbits on Party at My Place today. Will be sharing it for sure.
Thanks again for featuring this post Michelle. I’m so glad I found your link up!
Great tips – it’s so easy to get in a rut! This summer I’m working on getting out of the sandwich rut for lunch and coming up with new recipes involving tortillas, pitas, etc. Thanks for posting! Blessings, Janet
Thanks for stopping by Janet! I love that you are trying out new recipes, it’s important to get out of the rut.
Featuring this post at Party at My Place this week.
Thank you Michelle!!!
