The Power of an Answer
Tonight I am preparing for my first motivational speech. This is the first time I have been asked to come and speak on something that isn’t a training. If I am honest, public speaking (beyond the training) is something I want to do. If I am being honest, I am just a little nervous.
I said Yes to the request from my friend who the Junior League President two months ago.
I’ve been thinking about what I would say for the past two months. Yet, as I sat down to write it I became worried that what I had to say wouldn’t be enough.
However, I have said Yes.
Over the past two years, I have actively said yes to new opportunities and it has changed my life in more ways that I would have ever imagined.
I am honored to be asked to speak in front of amazing women in my community. I’m returning home to my League where I learned many skills which have guided me as a professional. A close friend who is also a sustainer (no longer active) immediately said she was coming when I said I would be speaking. I am calling her my personal cheerleader. Another sent me an email informing me she couldn’t come but would be there in spirit.
Saying No isn’t an option now. I said Yes.
Saying yes is scary.
Saying Yes leads you to the unknown.
Saying yes provides you with opportunities never imagined.
I’m saying yes to my future and forever grateful for the opportunities that come my way.
What have you said yes to lately?

Go you!! That is so great that you are saying yes, even when it’s a little bit scary. You’re going to do a fabulous job!!
Thanks Jenna!! I’m just going to take a deep breath and do it! 🙂
This is so great! I remember you mentioning the speech before and I’m so excited you have the opportunity. Couldn’t imagine a better speaker! Thinking about you; know you’ll do GREAT!
It was a great opportunity and even if It only touch a few people – then it served it’s purpose.
Saying “yes” to taking time off for 6 months to serve in a foreign country and travel around the world! 🙂
Oh my gosh Jen, what a fantastic opportunity to say yes to! I’m hoping you will share about it.
Love it, Sheryl! Stepping out of your comfort zone and doing something you always wanted to do. That’s awesome! Proud of you. And big hugs!!! 🙂
Thanks Mia – as always, I felt your hug!
Wow! So awesome! I look forward to hearing about it!
Thanks Caroline – I’m planning to write a post. Hoping to get back into more of a regular writing (and reading) schedule.
Great job Sheryl! A simple ‘yes’ can really open a lot of opportunities. How did your speech go? Can’t wait to hear your story about it. 🙂
It’s amazing what saying yes will do – it may not immediately open a door but I’ve found that saying yes to one thing has opened a door 6 months or a year later.
This is so true! Saying yes is simple yet so difficult at the same time! I can’t wait to hear how your speech went- I would have loved to have been there!
“Saying No isn’t an option now. I said Yes.” <— Somehow this always happens to me and that fear in the moment you realize you can't back out is REAL, whew! But when I do go through with it, it feels SO good to have pushed through that fear.
