Take A Break From Your To Do List

Ignoring theTo Do List

There are times in your life when you need to take a break from your To Do list.

April is an extremely busy month for me with a multitude of deadlines. It is one of those times where it is easy to feel guilty about not working on something on the list. However, this weekend I remembered that life is short and there are times when it is necessary to take a break from the To Do’s and simply Do something I enjoy.

The weather this weekend was absolutely beautiful. Of course when James suggested we spend Sunday afternoon at Keeneland Race Track, of course I said yes.

Keeneland

Keeneland is one of my favorite places to go. The grounds are simply stunning but you are also watching some of the most beautiful animals on earth.

Saturday’s meet had an attendance of over 36,000 people and although Sunday was crowded, it was no where near that attendance (thankfully). We spent the afternoon enjoying the races (no big winners here), people watching (the variety of outfits is amazing) and enjoying some great Makers Mark Summer Breeze (I had to have more than one).

Yes, I came home to my To Do list but by taking a break from the list; I was able to enjoy a great afternoon in beautiful weather in a beautiful setting with my husband. In the past I may have turned down this opportunity but I continue to realize the importance of enjoying life and not turning down opportunities. The To Do list can often wait.  I am grateful I have learned this lesson.

Have you taken a break from your own To Do list? I challenge you to take a break sometime this week.

Good for you. At times I find that taking a break gives me a break through, or ideas that lead to one. Sometimes your brain and your body need that break! Glad that you were able to let go of the list and enjoy the beauty of the day.

You are so right Nikki, our brains benefit from taking a break and actually function better. We’ve been lucky here that our weekends have been sunny lately while the weeks are rainy.

LOL! The spring rains make me want to curl up and take a nap tho! Gotta brew more coffee!

Thanks Caroline – and yes, today I was faced with my list. I’m just taking it one thing at a time!. The day was worth it.

I love this! I’m so glad you were able to take a break- you of all people deserve it! I saw your IG picture of the racetrack and it looks SO fun. I’ve never been to a live horse race but my Grandma LOVED the kentucky derby (she had lots of family in Kentucky) so I always think of her. Maybe one day I’ll get to see one! Also, we had very similar top pictures today (of the white flower) haha.

It’s so funny that you say this because yesterday I actually stated there are parts of the country that don’t have horse racing. It’s been a part of my life since I was young and I don’t know anything different. It’s fun and I do hope someday you get to go. And yes, I read your post from my phone and thought we had similar photographs. Great minds think alike!.

That is so interesting to hear how you can’t even imagine life without it. I remember watching the races on tv for as long as I can remember because of my grandma but that’s it. I hope I can watch one live some day it would be so fun! Great minds do think alike 🙂

I LOVE this. You absolutely have to take a break sometimes; you will go crazy if not! You had the perfect Keeneland weekend. I don’t think we’re going to make it out this spring! I’m so happy you had a nice Sunday!

It was a gorgeous afternoon and I totally forgot about all of the things I need to do! I’m sorry you won’t be able to make it. We’ve gone a few years without being able to make it out. Maybe in the fall we can make a date and meet there.

Agree! To-do lists can wait and taking breaks should be part of our to-do list too! It was nice seeing you enjoy. 🙂

We didn’t do anything yesterday, even though we have a large to-do list. It was so nice to just enjoy the rainy day hanging out!

Sometimes rainy days are the best – especially when you don’t have to get out in the rain.
