Shake Up Your Life

 photo shakeitup_zpsa1af3de1.jpg

There’s a fine line between a rut and a groove.

I often use the metaphor of a rut to discuss negative habits and unhealthy behaviors. All aspects of our life can fall into a rut. It is easy to find yourself doing the same habits and behaviors over and over because it becomes comfortable. You don’t have to think about it.
Life becomes predictable.
Often you don’t realize you are in a rut until something forces you to see that predictable isn’t working. You don’t realize that you’re not doing anything new because life is busy. You don’t have time for anything new.
Predictable become easy.
Do you find yourself in a rut? Do you handle stress in the same unhealthy manner every day? When is the last time you changed your hairstyle? Do you attend the same workout class daily? Are you one to order the same items at a restaurant because you know it will be good? Are you afraid to leave your job you don’t like because you know what you are doing?
Life is too short to be predictable.
What are the things you know aren’t working in your life? What would you like to do differently? What is holding you back?
Do something unpredictable.
Realize that changing a behavior is not easy. It takes effort and time to pull yourself out of that rut.
It is easy to fall back into old patterns.
But making the change is worth it.
Are there areas in your life that are in a rut? What would you like to do differently?
I challenge you to begin the process of moving yourself out of your current rut.
Take the step and shake up your life. Do something different.
It may feel awkward at first but your current rut probably felt awkward to.
Share what you would like to change. Let’s support each other.

Love this post Sheryl! My schedule has gotten really full lately and I think sometimes I don’t see myself as flexible in any way. But I need to think outside the box! This definitely applies to being physically active and taking better care of my mental, physical and spiritual health. Thanks for the reminder 🙂

Daisy, I’m so glad this could be a reminder for you. I think we all fall into ruts now and then and need to acknowledge it.

Why don’t you choose one thing to do differently this week. It could be eating something different, or wearing an outfit you don’t normally wear. Try a different workout.. Let me know if you do something different this week.

Oh Jessa, Thank you! We all need to be reminded of this. I’m going to check back with you to see what you have done.

Challenge accepted! Oh how I needed this. I just fumbled through a post and then I come here and you said it all perfectly.

    Time to shake it up.

I think I am going to check in on everyone to see what has been done. Our routines become comfortable and even when they are comfortable, we often don’t have the energy to change them. Let me know how it’s going. So far this week, I’ve done a different workout routine each day and even wore my hair different.
